Why Bingo is Actually Good For You
Posted December 16th, 2011 byWe all know about the stereotype that links old people with bingo and many of us struggle to see why bingo is such a popular game, especially as it’s the last thing we’d want to spend our spare time doing. However, what would you say if I told you that bingo is actually good for you? I know it’s difficult to believe but hear me out.
Laughter
If you’ve ever walked past a bingo hall in the evenings it’s likely that you’ve heard this strange sound emanating from the doors – yes, that’s the sound of laughter. Laughter is known to improve the immune systems and if we use our stereotypical old lady for an example, this is definitely a good thing!
Purpose
When we are young we have a lot of things that give us purpose in life but as we grow older things change and it’s not unheard of for our purpose to diminish. Bingo actually does give the elderly a purpose and when combined with the social elements of the game it creates a sense of belonging too.
Good for Your Brain
And finally this is something that is good for people of all ages – bingo is good for your brain! Not only does it stimulate your hand-eye concentration but it improves your memory too. In fact some experts even say that people who play bingo find it easier to learn new facts as it increases their mental capacity.
…and you thought bingo was just a game?
